Environmental & Social Manager (m/f/d)
Full-time, Berlin

Your tasks will include:

  • Appraising the environmental, social and human rights impacts and risks of ib vogt projects, primarily against international requirements of e.g. IFC, EBRD, ILO, and Equator Principles
  • Defining and agreeing with ib vogt project staff, financing partners and clients on actions required to uphold the requirements of the IFC PS
  • Contribute to the drafting of sector and thematic guidance notes for further orientation, assistance and interpretation for the application of standards by ib vogt staff and external subcontractors
  • Carry out due diligence on E&S appraisal and subsequent monitoring activities in selected projects and programs
  • Provide specialist helpdesk advice on social due diligence queries pertaining to individual projects throughout the project cycle, including guidance on the application of policies relating to assessment and mitigation of social risks and impacts
  • Manage studies by specialist consultants on the integration of HSSE-requirements in impact assessment (both environmental and social impact assessments and strategic environmental assessment) in collaboration with lenders
  • Provide specialist input in existing ib vogt project markets, for example guidance on practice under current safeguard provisions
  • Support the further advancement of ib vogt’s environmental and social development policies, procedures and due diligence standards
  • Carry out environmental and social due diligence of projects during all relevant phases of the project cycle
  • Monitor, upkeep and update the QHSSE management systems ensuring that they are maintained, ‘fit for purpose’ and legally compliant
  • Maintaining certified management systems (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, 50001)
  • Carry out internal management system and site audits as part of the internal audit team ensuring that any non-conformances/observations raised as a result of internal and external audits are effectively resolved and closed out in a timely manner
  • Conduct environmental and social risk analysis in new markets
  • Support and advise line management in all QHSSE objectives
  • Assist with EPC tender/submission documentation

Your Profile:

  • Master’s degree in an appropriate field (e.g. sociology, anthropology, social development practice, environmental studies, development studies, economics or another relevant discipline)
  • Relevant professional experience within an international development and/or financial institution, consultancy firm, fund, or corporate is required
  • A sound knowledge of social due diligence frameworks, processes and tools and their application in a project/program funding context
  • Experience of operating in international environments, including those of developing countries. Exposure to project and/or corporate finance is a plus
  • Experience in implementing action plans and drafting environmental and social management plans
  • Demonstrable skills in managing and responding to external stakeholders
  • Competent in managing audit corrective actions, accident investigations, embedding any changed procedures
  • Demonstrable skills in producing systems, processes, handover documents and manuals
  • Ability to work in interdisciplinary teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English; additional languages are a plus
  • Critical and solution-orientated attitude and the ability to communicate ideas clearly and confidently
  • Ability to travel frequently, also to developing countries
