BuzzFeed is seeking a founding editor in Berlin. We’re a leading social news and entertainment company, intensely focused on delivering high-quality original reporting, insight, and viral content across a rapidly expanding array of subject areas.

We’re looking for an entrepreneurial editor to bring BuzzFeed to the German market. You’ll spend time learning at BuzzFeed NYC/London/LA and then come back to Berlin to make a uniquely German version of the site as part of a the BuzzFeed global network. You’ll be in charge creating original content and hiring a small team, as well as managing the translation of BuzzFeed into German and running the site’s German social presence. BuzzFeed is the place to find the best viral content online, so if you’re obsessed with the things people are sharing, liking, recommending and talking about, this would be a good fit for you.

Responsibilities

• Spend time training with BuzzFeed writers and editors in our other global offices
• Write, edit, and produce original posts for BuzzFeed.com focused on German news and culture, in German
• Hire and manage a small team of writers
• Post BuzzFeed content to various social media sites
• Curate and coax the BuzzFeed German homepage into becoming a true thing of beauty
• Manage translations, choosing which stories from other BuzzFeed country sites` to have translated and editing those translations before publishing

Requirements

• 2-3 years experience writing or editing for a large website or other publication
• Proven ability to make widely shared posts
• Experience using social media in a professional capacity
• Thorough understanding of the social web, web copyright issues, and web research
• Familiarity with standard photo-editing tools (PhotoShop or the like)
• Established social media presence
